They’d just tied the knot in spectacular style but Meghan had a question for Harry as they stood on the steps of St George’s chapel.
According to lip reader Tina Lannin, when the newly-wed couple stopped mid-way down the West Steps there was a moment of uncertainty over their first kiss as husband and wife.
Meghan discreetly asked Harry: ‘Do we kiss?’
To which Harry quietly replied: ‘Yeah’.
The long-awaited first kiss of the newly married couple drew cheers and applause from those gathered in the baking heat outside the West Door.
There were shouts of ‘Congratulations’, followed by a cheeky ‘Don’t be shy’ from a former soldier, as he hinted for a second kiss.
Paul Vice, an ex-marine said Harry, who he has met a number of times, smiled back at him and would have been well aware of the squaddie humour with which the shout was intended.
Mr Vice joked: ‘As soldiers we’ll always give him a little bit of flack, especially now he’s under the ball and chain.’
The 34-year-old from Exeter, who is a past participant in the Invictus Games, said he believed even if Harry felt nervous as he arrived he would not have shown it.
‘He’s a good lad, he looks very happy,’ he said.
Earlier, Groom Harry, who is now the Duke of Sussex after being given the title by the Queen in the morning, had whispered a special message to his bride as the pair stood at the altar of the chapel.
He had been waiting patiently, but looking slightly nervous, at the altar of the church.
He told his bride ‘You look amazing’ to which Meghan replied ‘thank you’ as they met at the altar
Harry was dressed in his smart frockcoat uniform of the Blues and Royals, and flanked by his best man and older brother the Duke of Cambridge.
