Donald Trump’s visit to Buckingham Palace with wife Melania and his adult children – and their partners – has been just as controversial as expected, with social media erupting over the family’s unusual choices of attire for the occasion.

Trump’s kids Don Jr., 41, Ivanka, 37, Eric, 35, Eric’s wife Lara, 36, and Tiffany, 25, dressed up to the nines for the State Banquet, and it seems the US is as divided as ever, with some of the fashion critiques particularly savage.

‘Trump looks like someone who bought a costume from a prop auction for their favorite movie and convinced themselves it was their size,’ sniped one poster.

Another noted, ‘Trump looks like he and fam went to an old timey photobooth shop at the mall and chose the Lord Grantham costume.’

While a third complained, ‘Even hell has has a comminty theatre production of Show Boat.’

Moaned a fourth, ‘So the 4 Trump kids don’t actually know how to dress? Don Jr & Eric look like they cut their own jackets. Tiffany from the costume dept at the Carol Burnett show & Ivanka who normally is dressed appropriately doesn’t know if she’s at a ball or a summer clam dig/bbq. Ugh!’

But many Trump admirers loved the family’s style, with one posting on Instagram: ‘Never have I seen so much class on a single photo. Amazing!‘

Another wrote: ‘Handsome bunch! Thank you to your family. I pray for you all every night.’

A third chimed in, ‘This is an awesome picture! Love my First family, you represent us so well. Hope you had a fabulous time.’

What will the Queen think? One thing’s for sure, we won’t be seeing a tweet on the subject from Her Majesty.
