Last week, the Queen appeared ‘vulnerable’ while attending a public engagement with the Duchess of Cambridge.
So, as fears grow for Her Majesty’s health, just what will happen when she passes away?
Well, according to the Guardian, a plan is already in place for when the time comes.
Known as ‘Operation London Bridge,’ it is understood the code phrase ‘London Bridge is down’ will be sent directly to the Prime Minister as well as to other leaders of the Commonwealth nations to inform them.
The rest of the world will find out when a press release is sent out to the media simultaneously. Around the same time, a footman will place a notice on the gates of Buckingham Palace.
In the UK, and no doubt across the world, TV and radio stations will dump their programming schedules to cover the tragic news and flags will fly at half mast.
The plan also see a 12-day mourning period between the time of the Queens death and her funeral.
Once this period concludes, Prince Charles will be crowned King at about 11am.
It is then likely Prince William and Kate will become the Prince and Princess of Wales.
