Newsnight presenter Emily Maitlis was the first to raise the topic on Twitter when she said her Majesty looked “furious”.

“Im sure she’s not. But she looks furious. #QueensSpeech,” Maitlis wrote.

However, several followers agreed with the journalist, with one replying:

“Are you absolutely sure she is not?”

“I agree. A very displeased look amidst the diamond glitter,” added another follower, whole another wrote, “I’m pretty confident she’s bloody furious.”

The debate continued on social media, with some saying the Queen was “giving dead eyes” to Speaker of the House John Bercow while another wrote: “The Queen’s raging, we can all see that.”

Other Twitter users believed Her Majesty was furious with British Prime Minister Boris Johnson for the ongoing political chaos caused by the Government’s difficulties to deliver the Brexit deal

Queen Elizabeth opted to attend the 2019 state opening of Parliament without wearing the Imperial State Crown.

Instead, her majesty wore the George IV State Diadem (which is significantly lighter than the 1kg traditional crown).

The Imperial State Crown was placed on a red velvet cushion to the right of the Queen’s Throne in the House of Lords in Westminster Palace.

It is believed that the Queen may have made the swap because of the large weight of the traditional crown.

In last year’s BBC documentary, The Coronation, the 93-year-old joked that the crown can be difficult to wear, particularly during the Queen’s speech.

“You can’t look down to read the speech,” she explained. “Because if you did, your neck would break — it would fall off.”
