While the Prince was recently involved in a serious PR incident for the palace following a car crash near Sandringham earlier this year, Channel 5 TV documentary Scandals at the Palace reveals it was just the latest in a run of moments that have left the Queen incensed. Chief among them are some of the things that Philip has said while on state visits.
‘I don’t think he means any genuine offence when he makes these one-liners,’ author Katie Nicholl told the program. ‘But unfortunately he has offended nations and peoples around the world.’

Most notoriously, during a 2009 meeting with Barack and Michelle Obama, the president told her Majesty and Prince Philp that he’s met with Chinese and Russian delegations, and David Cameron, to which the Duke of Edinburgh reportedly replied: ‘Can you tell the difference between them?’
Noted royal author Angela Levin, ‘He does have a preponderance of saying something rude about the Chinese.’
Philip infamously referred to Beijing as ‘ghastly’ during a 1986 state visit, and made unkind comments about the Chinese to a group of students.
Said long time royal correspondent Robert Jobson: ‘I don’t think the Queen was overly impressed with that one!’
