As reports emerge about the Duchess of Sussex secretly messaging British man and X Factor winner Matt Cardle just months before meeting Prince Harry, new details surrounding how the Duke actually proposed to the former actress have also surfaced.
According to the documentary Meghan Markle: Movies, Marriages and Motherhood, the proposal wasn’t meant to happen when it did.
In fact, Prince Harry had planned something completely different to how it all unfolded.
“I had actually been told by one of his friends that he had planned to pop the question in Botswana but for whatever reason he didn’t,” royal expert Katie Nicholl explained.
“It happened a few weeks later while they were home, at Nottingham Cottage roasting a chicken. Utter domestic simplicity and bliss and incredibly romantic,” she added.
Back in 2017, Harry opened up about his time in Botswana and why it holds such a special place in his heart.
Speaking to Town & Country magazine, he said: “This is where I feel more like myself than anywhere else in the world.”
So much so that Harry convinced his then girlfriend Meghan to join him on a trip there during the earlier days of their romance.
“We camped out with each other under the stars,” Harry previously revealed while chatting to the BBC.
It is also understood one of the diamonds in Meghan’s engagement ring is from Botswana.
