The pressure seemed to get the better of Kate Middleton when she met Prince William‘s family when they first started dating, as according to royal experts she didn’t make the best impression.

There was even a time when Queen Elizabeth didn’t approve of her grandson’s relationship with his university sweetheart, and she had “grave concerns” surrounding the match.

In her book, The Making of a Royal Romance, royal expert Katie Nicholl said he Queen had not spent much time with Kate on the run-up to the royal wedding in May 2011, and was worried Kate didn’t have a status of her own before their engagement.

“Privately she had grave concerns and believed that Kate needed to have a job and an identity in her own right before an engagement was announced,” she wrote.

Whereas other royal experts claimed the Queen was concerned that the now Duchess of Cambridge wasn’t doing enough or working hard enough.

“The Queen once remarked Kate doesn’t do very much so I think she had a fairly long entrance to the Royal family,” royal expert, Phil Dampier told express.co.uk

Kate was eventually able to win over the Queen as they both share a love of the outdoors.

And since her marriage to Prince William in 2011, Kate has been an active working member of the royal family.

The Duchess devotes her time to supporting a number of charitable causes and organisations, several of which are centred around providing children with the best possible start in life.

Of course, her own family is also important, as Kate is now mum to three children.

Prince George, 6, Princess Charlotte, 4, and one-year-old Prince Louis.
