The Queen looked downcast and in mourning as she attended the funeral of close friend Jeanie, Countess of Carnarvon, at Highclere Castle in Newbury, on Thursday, April 25.
The service for the 83-year-old was held at Highclere Parish Church of Saint Michaels and All Angels.
Her Majesty donned all black for the funeral, wearing a chic coat with an asymmetric white neckline and sleeve detail.
She teamed the look with a black hat and white bow, a diamond brooch and pearls.
Jeanie’s son, George Herbert, is the Queen’s godson, and the two have been close friends since she met her husband, Henry Herbert (or Lord Porchester) at Uckfield House in Sussex, which just so happens to be the residence of the Queen’s childhood friend.
The countess, who was the founder and President of the Newbury Spring Festival, passed away on April 11.
