New Year’s Eve is the perfect occasion to get your glad rags on – and Australian-born royal Princess Mary didn’t disappoint as she stepped out in a diamond tiara for a traditional banquet.
Accompanied by a very dapper Prince Frederik, Mary looked stunning in a gold and black gown featuring purple detailing.
She wore her brunette hair in a low bun and accessorized with drop earrings and traditional regalia.
Meanwhile, Prince Frederik donned military regalia for the prestigious occasion.
The banquet is a traditional event hosted by the Danish Queen Margrethe at Christian VII’s Palace, Amalienborg, in Copenhagen, Denmark.
Earlier, Queen Margrethe spoke of the need to reflect during her live New Year’s Eve address.
“When the clock strikes twelve at midnight, the old year comes to an end. At that very moment, we toast the new year and wish each other “Happy New Year”.
“On New Year’s Morning, we wake up to embrace new days. They lie ahead of us, waiting for us, but the time that has passed lies behind us,” she said.
“And yet – all the things that happen to us leave an impact and provide us with experience, good and not so good. We must carry that experience with us further in life.”
She added that too many people too many people focus on the hustle and bustle of daily life and are forgetting to spend time on reflection.
“The important thing is not how you look or what you have achieved. But who you are and how you behave towards others – your friends and schoolmates; if you are so busy achieving what is best for yourself all the time, you fail to see how others are doing,” she said.
