Mary, 47, will be accompanied by Denmark’s Minister for Culture Mette Bock.

The visit is part of a national strategy to promote Danish influence in America, which the Royal House say involves ‘a Danish cultural promotional effort focused on Nordic values and competencies in the creative industries.’

Crown Princess Mary will complete a series of official engagements including an appearance at Austin’s South by Southwest Festival, an internationally acclaimed event for leaders in the film, media and music industries.

She will also attend functions at the House of Scandinavia, Texas Medical Center and a Danish jewellery exhibition at the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft.

On the final leg of her visit, the Princess will represent her adopted country at a gala dinner at the Danish Embassy in Washington DC.

The overseas engagement is not the first time Mary has represented Denmark in the US.

Last year, the mother-of-four opened the Nordic Museum in Seattle.
