Mary has been appointed to Denmark’s Council of State, which means she now has the power to act as regent in the Queen’s place, if anything happens to her.

The Danish royals shared the news with their Instagram followers on Wednesday.

In the snap, Mary can be seen smiling proudly as she sits alongside her husband Prince Frederick and Queen Margrethe, who’s looking at her lovingly.

Crown Prince Frederik, his brother Prince Joachim and the Queen’s sister, Princess Benedikte are the only other members of the family to hold this honour.

It’s been a busy week for the Danish royals.

Mary stunned fans on on Tuesday when she stepped out in Copenhagen in a fashionable pink coat dress.

The Australian-born royal looked stunning in her dusky pink outfit.

Looking chic she paired her favourite Claes Iversen coat with a pillbox hat and shoes in the same shade.

As is tradition, Mary curtsied as she greeted Queen Margrethe on the steps of parliament and the queen then affectionately kissed her daughter-in-law on the cheek while Prince Frederik looked on.

Both royal women were given beautiful bouquets of bright seasonal blooms.
