New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Arden has announced that Prince William will visit Christchurch in April to honour those who lost their lives in the mosques terror attack.
The Prime Minister has said that Duke of Cambridge is making the short visit on behalf of the Queen so that the crown can pay tribute to the “extraordinary compassion and solidarity” shown by New Zealanders in recent weeks.
Arden said in a statement: “I’m sure all New Zealanders but especially the Muslim community of Christchurch will appreciate seeing the compassion and support, that has been so tangibly demonstrated since the attack, continue into the future.”
“I’m really pleased that he [Prince William] can make a short visit to support those affected by the attack and pay tribute to the extraordinary compassion and solidarity that New Zealanders have displayed in recent weeks.”
Arden said that the royals visit will be viewed as a gesture of solidarity: “The visit will be another sign that this nation will always stand with those affected by the terror attacks, and the people of Christchurch.”
Fifty people passed away and forty-eight people were injured on March 15 when a gunman opened fire on worshippers at the Masjid Al Noor and Linwood Masjid.
The attack is New Zealand’s worst ever mass shooting.
