Prince Philip was the inspiration behind one of the most popular Disney characters of all time, and who it is may surprise you.
The Prince in the Disney classic Sleeping Beauty was actually named after the Duke of Edinburgh.
Created in 1959, the film was the first of the Disney movie to name its prince, and the writers supposedly took inspiration from the British monarchy.
According to Express.co.uk, a Disney fandom website explained why Philip was the inspiration behind the iconic character: “Phillip was the first Disney prince to be given a proper name and a developed character.
“He is said to have been named after the prince that Americans knew of best at the time, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, husband of Elizabeth II.”
