Prince Philip is not known for being delicate in social situations and has been known to speak his mind and make his feelings heard, however even the Duke of Edinburgh needs to employ some subtle tricks to avoid awkward conversations.
It is widely known that the Queen uses her handbag as a signal to her aides when she wants to be extradited from conversations, the monarch will either place her handbag on a chair (which means she is enjoying the conversation) or she will place her handbag on the table (which means she wants to get out ASAP).
Now Prince Philip’s handy trick for avoiding unwanted convo has been revealed.
Speaking with PEOPLE Magazine, royal historian Hugo Vickers said that Philip will do a sweeping motion with his hands to avoid getting stuck in lengthy chats.
Mr Vickers claims that as Philip shakes someone’s hand, he will ask a question and as he does so, his hand swings from left to right.
By the time his guest has answered the question, he has already moved on in the line-up leaving them behind.
