Prince Henrik of Denmark passed away last night, and to commemorate his passing the Danish Royal House has released rare, never-before-seen photos of the 83-year-old.
One of the photos included is the last picture taken of the Henrik, and shows the royal posing in front of a beautiful floral backdrop during a recent holiday to Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt.
The image comes after the palace confirmed on Wednesday that the prince had died ‘peacefully in his sleep’ on 13 February at 11.18pm at Fredensborg Castle, north of Copenhagen. Queen Margrethe and their two sons were by his side.
Some of the other images shared by the Danish Royal family include the Prince as a young boy, as well as photos of his wedding day.
The Prince had been suffering from several health battles of late, with the royal spending most of his time in hospitals the last few years. It was announced in 2017 that Henrik had been diagnosed with dementia.
His Highness is survived by his wife of 50 years, Queen Margrethe, son and daughter-in-law Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary, son and daughter-in-law, Prince Joachim and Princess Marie, as well as his several grandchildren, Prince Nikolai, Prince Felix, Prince Christian, Princess Isabella, Prince Henrik, Prince Vincent, Princess Josephine and Princess Athena.
