Heartbreaking news for Princess Mary, as her father-in-law, Prince Henrik of Denmark, the husband of Denmark Queen Margrethe II, has been admitted to hospital, the Royal Court confirms.
A statement released by the family reads, ‘His Royal Highness Prince Henrik has been admitted to the Rigshospitalet in Copenhagen this evening. Since the beginning of January, the Prince has stayed in Egypt and was hospitalised a few days ago. His Royal Highness has now come home to undergo further investigations at Rigshospitalet.’
Henrik has been admitted to hospital several times in recent years.
In 2017, His Highness was admitted to hospital several times before it was confirmed that he had dementia. Prince Henrik has also been treated for an infection in his leg. It is uncertain why the Prince is hospitalised this time.
Prince Henrik of Denmark has been married to Queen Margrethe since 1967, and the couple has two sons, Crown Prince Frederik and Prince Joachim and eight grandchildren.
