Prince Harry is locked in a bitter war of words with his meddling stepmother Camilla, after she made a series of cruel and vicious jibes against partner Meghan Markle.
The 32-year-old leapt to the defense of his American love after the Duchess of Cornwall attacked Meghan for ’embarrassing the monarchy’ through a recent interview.
While the Vanity Fair article – which saw Meghan, 36, speak intimately of her fairytale royal romance – was sanctioned by Prince Harry and Kensington Palace, it’s believed senior royals at Buckingham Palace were left ‘completely in the dark.’
Now, Camilla is believed to be leading the charge of outrage over Meghan’s cover shoot and interview, labelling it as a ‘shameless publicity stunt’ – words that haven’t sat well with the prince.
‘Camilla was one of the first to voice her disgust over the Vanity Fair piece,’ a well-placed aide tells New Idea. ‘She felt it was a shameless stunt and said it proves Meghan is just using Harry to make a name for herself.’
Sources say this isn’t the first time Harry and Camilla have come to blows over his new relationship.
When the pair first started dating last May, the 70-year-old was very vocal in her disapproval of the romance – angry that Meghan was ‘too much of a commoner’ for the royal family.
‘Camilla has been very forthright with her believe that only European royalty or London’s high society should marry into the royal family,’ says a palace source.
