As Princess Charlotte‘s first day of school approaches, we take a look back at her big brother Prince George‘s first day at Thomas’s Battersea School.
The future king was the first member of the royal family children to attend the school, located roughly 5 kilometres from the Cambridge family home of Kensington Palace.

On his first day of school in 2017, the Prince was accompanied by his father, Prince William as he arrived at Thomas’s Battersea.
Unfortunately, his mother Kate Middleton could not attend the special moment as she was fighting off morning sickness from her pregnancy with Prince Louis.
With a nervous expression on his face, Prince George was just like any other child beginning school for the first time.
The then-four-year-old looked adorable in his Thomas’s Battersea uniform, featuring a navy v-neck jersey and trousers.
Prince George was given a warm greeting from the Head of Lower School at Thomas’s Battersea, Helen Haslem.
Ms Haslem – who was dressed in a muted pink coloured long-sleeved dress – took the young royal’s free hand and walked him into the reception classroom.
The blonde would go on to see Prince George through the early years of his schooling at Thomas’s Battersea up until year two.
At school, the little royal is known as George Cambridge, due to his parent’s titles as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
“There won’t be any special treatment,” Ben Thomas, former headmaster of Thomas’s Battersea, told People reporters at the time.
“In fact, what his parents would like for him, as any parent would like for their child, is they have a wonderful, fulfilling and private childhood.”
The school costs $30 000 a year and places a huge emphasis on kindness amongst its students.
“The emphasis in the Lower School is enjoyment and this is embedded in our broad curriculum and our most important school rule of ‘Be Kind’,” Ms Haslem said in a statement on the prep school’s website.
The headmaster Simon O’Malley also stated that the school’s core values are “courtesy, confidence, humility and learning to be givers, not takers.”
According to Yahoo, Thomas’s Battersea boasts impressive alumni such as Cara Delevingne and singer Florence Welch from Florence and The Machine.
