Meghan Markle is set to tie the knot to Prince Harry on May 19 at St Georges Chapel on the grounds of Windsor Castle, but Meghan’s connections to the royal family go way back.
Meghan is often photographed wearing a Cartier French Tank watch – the same design that Princess Diana wore.
Diana owned several Cartier watches, most notably her favourite gold Tank Francais, which was given to her by her father, John Spencer.
When she died it was reportedly passed on to her eldest son, Prince William, who gifted it to Kate to celebrate their third wedding anniversary.
And, Meghan’s own Cartier watch holds a special place in her heart. Back in 2015 she told Hello that she splurged on the watch to celebrate the third season of her hit show Suits.
‘I’ve always coveted the Cartier French Tank watch,’ she said.
‘When I found out Suits had been picked up for our third season – which, at the time, felt like such a milestone – I totally splurged and bought the two tone version. I had it engraved on the back ‘To M.M. From M.M.’’
And, the soon-to-be royal has a special plan for her beloved piece.
‘I plan to give it to my daughter one day,’ she revealed.
‘That’s what makes pieces special, the connection you have to them.’
