The publication is celebrating “310 years of high glamour, high society and high drama” with Meghan, 38, as the cover star of its birthday issue.

No one can deny that the Duchess has certainly brought another level of “high drama” to the royal family, which she joined with her wedding to Prince Harry in May 2018.

According to Daily Mail, the society mag used an old photo of the Duchess taken during a photoshoot in 2015.

However, it apparently Photoshopped out the chunky gold earrings the Duchess was wearing in the original image.

While Meghan hasn’t been interviewed by the magazine, the publication will run a series of comment pieces by writers including Lionel Shriver and Lynn Barber, discussing the divisive opinions surrounding the Duchess.

Meghan is no stranger to the publishing industry, having run her own lifestyle website, The Tig for three years before her marriage to Harry, and famously guest editing the September issue of British Vogue earlier this year.

The Duchess of Sussex was the first person to guest edit the September issue in 103 years, so it wasn’t an honour to be taken lightly.

Meghan didn’t appear on the magazine’s cover, which instead showcased 15 women, including teenage climate activist Greta Thunberg and New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, and was emblazoned with the slogan ‘Forces for CHANGE’.

The Duchess’s Tatler cover comes at a tense time for Meghan and Harry who’s recent documentary Harry & Meghan: An African Journey has caused controversy for the royals

In an emotional clip from the documentary about the royal tour of Africa, the Duchess of Sussex made a heartbreaking confession.

“Look, any woman especially when they are pregnant, you’re really vulnerable and so that was made really challenging, and then when you have a newborn – you know… And especially as a woman, it’s a lot. So you add this on top of just trying to be a new mom or trying to be a newlywed,” she said.

Meghan added: “And, also thank you for asking, because not many people have asked if I’m OK. But it’s a very real thing to be going through behind the scenes.”

Interviewer Tom Bradby went on to quiz Meghan further, to which she replied: “And the answer is, would it be fair to say, not really OK, as in it’s really been a struggle?”, to which the Duchess said, “Yes”.
