As Meghan Markle concluded her royal tour of Africa, she accidentally broke royal protocol by taking a selfie with a crown-of-flowers filter.

The Duchess of Sussex appeared in the Instagram story of South Africa-based platform Own Ur Crown, which showed Meghan with an Instagram filter during their meeting.
Prince Harry and Meghan were attending a reception at the Johannesburg’s High Commission.
In the video, the 38-year-old appeared to be looking at the phone before realising the crown filter was added.
While initially shocked at the flowers that appeared in her hair, Meghan seemed delighted by her temporary crown.
According to Express, selfies are frowned upon by the immediate members of the Royal Family and royal fans are discouraged to take them.
In a ‘Meeting The Royal Family’ etiquette guide shared by the Canadian government ahead of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s visit to the country in 2016, Jennifer Gehmair discouraged royal fans from taking a selfie.
“I know it’s fun to do, but they much would rather see your face.”

The founder of Own Ur Crown, Nikiwe Dlova shared the footage and wrote on Instagram:
“Lastly she owned her crown with our Instagram filter we collaborated on with Will Hurt and Max Mutanda.”
She also added that the Duchess “loved” the filter.
The designer was invited to the reception as one of the creatives behind the 2018 ColabNowNow – an initiative by the British Council.
According to Express, Nikiwe brought some of the headdresses she makes.
Meghan’s excitement at the crown can be explained with the fact she had been immortalized with one of the headpieces the artist had in her hand.
“When she [Meghan] looked away she realised it was the same headpiece I was holding!’ Nikiwe said.
“This is an experience I will never forget!!!”

The creative also discussed the meeting with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex in a blog post on the Own Ur Crown website.
“Wow!! What an amazing experience meeting The Duchess on October 2!
“300 guests were invited to Johannesburg’s High Commission to celebrate the UK and South Africa’s business and investment relationship.
“The British Council then invited 3 Colabnownow creatives of 2018 to come showcase their work and I was one of the creatives!”
