Now it seems that the exorbitant spending of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex has led to Meghan and Harry being issued with an official warning straight from Buckingham Palace.

In a new report, the Palace said major work was needed to turn the house – which is in the grounds of Windsor Castle – from five separate cottages into a single home for Harry and Meghan, and their new baby Archie.

While Frogmore Cottage was in a dilapidated state prior to the reno, it would seem the royal couple‘s choice to add things like a yoga studio are over the top and unnecessary, especially considering the whole thing was funded by the British public.

Speaking with Sky News, the CEO of anti-monarchy pressure group Republic, Graham Smith, spoke about the lack of transparency when it comes to the Royal Family and what they spend their money on.

“I mean ten years ago MPs were outraging the country by admitting to their own expense claims.

“Much smaller than what we’ve been hearing about today, why are we not outraged in the same way about Prince Harry spending our money on his own house?”

As for how the palace have explained the cost of the new home, Sir Michael Stevens, the Keeper of the Privy Purse and the Queen’s chief financial advisor, explained that although the taxpayer-funded Sovereign Grant  was used to supply American the Duchess with a fitted out mansion, the property was always set to be renovated at some point anyway.

“The property had not been the subject of work for some years and had already been earmarked for renovation in line with our responsibility to maintain the condition of the Occupied Royal Palaces estate.

“The Sovereign Grant covered the work undertaken to turn the building into the official residence and home of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and their new family.

“Substantially all fixtures and fittings were paid for by Their Royal Highnesses.”
