The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were said to have asked the Queen whether living arrangements could be made available for them in the castle following the royal wedding last year.

However, the British monarch pointed them in the direction of Frogmore cottage instead – which is rumoured to be the Queen’s favourite home.

It’s no surprise that Windsor holds a special place in both Meghan and Harry’s hearts – their royal wedding was held in St George’s Chapel.

According to the Sunday Times, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were said to have asked the Queen if they could live with her in Windsor Castle after they were married.

Royal author and deputy Lord Lieutenant of Berkshire, Hugo Vickers, told the Sunday Times:

“There are empty bedrooms and suites in the private apartments which the Sussex’s may have had their eye on, or perhaps some former living quarters in the castle grounds converted into other things.

“But I can see how it might not be entirely appropriate to have a young family living there.”

The royal couple moved away from Kensington Palace – the current residence of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge – in April (prior to Archie’s birth).

According to Express, Meghan and Harry chose Windsor for their family home as part of their decision to raise their son Archie out of the public eye.

The Duke and Duchess were said to even have ordered more trees to be planted around Frogmore Cottage’s borders in order to protect Archie’s privacy.

In addition, the new parents are said to be building an extensive outdoor play area for Archie in the home’s grounds.

Frogmore cottage is a far cry from Windsor Castle, but it’s a five-star bedroom residence that also received a controversial $4.4 million renovation before the royal couple moved in.

Meghan and Harry faced a great deal of backlash after Buckingham Palace stated that Frogmore cottage – which is in the grounds of Windsor Castle – was transformed from five separate cottages into a single home for Harry and Meghan, and their new baby Archie.

Buckingham Palace said Frogmore Cottage was in very poor shape and needed ceilings and floors replacing, extensive rewiring, and the installation of gas and water mains.
