Speaking to Jimmy Kimmel last week, Billy explained how the entire cast had been briefed on how to treat royals Meghan and Prince Harry, when they met at the movie premiere in London earlier this month.
Comedian Billy voices Timon in the remake of the 1994 classic movie, while Beyoncé voices Nala.
“We were all kind of nervous, even Beyoncé,” Billy revealed.
“What makes you nervous is that the days leading up to it, they email you a protocol of how you’re supposed to greet Prince Harry and Meghan,” he told Jimmy on Jimmy Kimmel Live!
He continued: “You’re supposed to say, ‘Your Royal Highness,’ [and] you can’t speak until your hands are in a handshake with his.”
Meghan received criticism for breaking royal protocol at the premiere when she met Beyoncé.
The Duchess of Sussex sparked a storm of fury from royal commentators for hugging the pop superstar as she met the cast of the movie.
The royal couple embraced Beyoncé and her husband Jay-Z who congratulated them on the birth of their first child baby Archie Harrison after his arrival on May 6, with 37-year-old Beyoncé reportedly telling 37-year-old Meghan: “That baby is so beautiful.”
