Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are expecting their first child together in mid-April, but will the little royal tot be dubbed prince or princess?

As many royal fans would know, the baby of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex is not going to be a prince or princess, but the baby’s place as seventh in the line of royal succession has given royalists a clue to its future title.

According to, if Meghan gives birth to a baby boy he will be titled Earl of Dumbarton.

Prince Harry was awarded the title Earl of Dumbarton by Queen Elizabeth II on the day of his wedding, the same day he was made Duke of Sussex.

On the other hand, if Meghan gives birth to a baby girl, her title will be Lady Mountbatten-Windsor.

The titles of prince and princess are restricted to the children of the sovereign, or the eldest children of the son of the sovereign – in this case, Prince Charles is the son of the sovereign which would mean his eldest child, William, has claim for his children to receive prince and princess titles.

This rule was created by King George V in 1917 via his letters patent, so as to limit the use of such titles, and it came into effect on December 11 that same year.

Who else can’t wait for the arrival of the royal baby?!
