In an eyebrow-raising decision, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex decided to release separate statements regarding the news that Ms Heggessey was moving on from their co-founded charity.
“Lorraine has played an integral role in our charitable initiatives over the last two and a half years,” William and Kate’s statement began.
“We are very grateful for her hard work and support, and wish her the very best for the future. We are pleased that Jason has been appointed as CEO and very much look forward to working with him in his new role.”
Releasing their own heartfelt statement, new parents Harry and Meghan said it was a ‘pleasure’ to work with Lorraine.
“It has been a great pleasure to work alongside Lorraine over the past couple of years, to champion the causes that we feel so strongly about, and we wish her well for the next stage of her career.”
The ‘Fab Four’ ran the Royal Foundation together until Prince Harry and wife Meghan Markle cut ties with the foundation to pursue their own charitable interests, separate from Prince William and Kate Middleton.
Despite initial concerns that the split was yet another sign of a royal rift, a palace aide confirmed to Vanity Fair that the separation was harmonious.
“They [the couples] are both excited about the future.
“When the foundation was formed it was for two boys in their early 20s.
“Their lives have changed considerably. Everything has been brought into a clearer focus now and there’s a new direction,” they added.
