Following Prince William and Kate Middleton‘s royal wedding in 2011, the newlyweds jetted off to a short and sweet trip to Canada and Los Angeles – a trip that reportedly left a bad impression on Prince Charles.

According to Express, the trip was organised by the Queen’s Canadian Secretary Kevin S. MacLeod – who reportedly allowed the royal couple to make their itinerary more informal than usual royal tours.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge appeared to win over crowds as they visited each place, but the publication reported that the Prince of Wales was less than impressed with his son and daughter-in-law’s antics while overseas.

Royal author Sally Bedell Smith said William’s father thought the trip featured too many “tasteless” photo ops and was reportedly unhappy with the “camera-friendly couple.”

According to Sally Bedell Smith, Prince Charles was “more than a little irked” at William and Kate for treating their official trip as a personal holiday.

During the Canada tour, Kate and William posed for photos in cowboy hats after being given the honour of pressing the button to launch the Calgary Stampede.

However, the Duchess of Cambridge was also pictured with her Jenny Packham yellow frock being blown up by a gust of wind.

Furthermore, royal author Phil Dampier told The Mirror there was a growing rivalry between father and son following William and Kate’s wedding.

“When Charles and Camilla visited Canada two years ago they were greeted by relatively small crowds, Dampier said.

“They are in their 60s and are not what you would call glamorous.

“Charles felt overshadowed by Diana and now it seems he feels overshadowed by their son.

“Some people may think he is jealous. I have always felt that as soon as William got married, Charles would feel sidelined.”

The report comes after speculation that Prince Charles and Camilla Parker-Bowles were responsible for driving a wedge between Kate and William before they were married.
