Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, wants her son Prince George to grow up outside of the more restrictive aspects of royal tradition, and that was on display with some of his recent birthday photos – so much so that he has been compared with a child from government housing. The comments come amid ongoing scrutiny of the young royal’s very unusual upbringing – see video below

Talking about the birthday pictures, royal expert Phil Dampier told The Sun newspaper’s Fabulous Digital that the young prince is already proving a trail blazer.

‘The football shirt is a nice touch because it portrays George like any other youngster, be they from a council estate or a Palace,’ he noted, revealing that Kate and William want to give their children as much normalcy as possible.

‘It was quite a shock to William when he was a boy to discover his future was mapped out as King, and I’m not sure he has ever fully come to terms with it, at least not until recently,’ revealed Dampier.

‘He wants George to grow up care-free as he will have plenty of responsibility later on.’

Mum Kate has been very involved in shaping her son’s normal image, having taken many of the photos released of him.

‘He looks very relaxed and confident and happy and Kate wants to show him as I’m sure he is, a normal six-year-old interested in sport,’ says Dampier.

‘He is clearly taking after his dad who is a massive football fan and of course President of the Football Association.’
