The trouble’s Kate Middleton and Prince William faced as a young couple are widely known, however, what some royal watchers may not be aware of is the particularly hurtful source of the tension; William’s close circle of friends.

While the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge seem to have a happy marriage now, a royal author has claimed the decade long romance that came before their spectacular 2011 royal wedding, was marred with immaturity and awful cruelty at the hands of the British elite that surrounded William at the time.
In his book William and Catherine, Andrew Morton explores the cracks that began to form in William and Kate’s relationship after the British public (and the royal family) found out about their romance.

“Kate would have sensed reservations about her in certain quarters,” Morton writes.
“While she was seen as a ’pretty and sensible’ girl, there were those in royal and aristocratic circles who believed that the Middletons were too middle-of-the-road for the House of Windsor.”
OUCH.
While it’s hard to believe the forever elegant Duchess of Cambridge could be at the receiving end of such harsh criticisms, Morton insists people close to members of the royal family – including the future king of England Prince Charles – believed Kate was not an appropriate choice to one day settle in Buckingham Palace as Queen.

“It was felt that she wasn’t from the right stock.
“William was expected to find a suitable bride among the aristocracy or European royalty – one of his own kind.
“Kate was treated abominably behind her back by some who should have shown better manners.”
Luckily for William and Kate fans, the couple decided to brush aside the doubters and now share three children together, Prince George, 5, Princess Charlotte, 4, and Prince Louis, 1.
