Australian-born royal Princess Mary has opened up about how her husband, Crown Prince Frederik, swept her off her feet.
The 46-year-old gave a speech – in English and Danish – at Frederik’s 50th birthday celebrations at Christiansborg Palace in Copenhagen.
‘It takes courage to dare to bet, but without it we have lost in advance,’ Mary told the room.
‘I am so happy you swept me off my feet and that we dared to fall for each other – not for a moment, but for life.’
Mary stunned for the occasion in a floor-length pink gown – which was heavily embellished with sequins.
A tiara glittered on top of her head and she wore her brunette hair in a loose bun at the nape of her neck.
Meanwhile, Prince Frederik looked dapper in military uniform for the event.
His wife wasn’t the only one to pay tribute to him at the grand celebration.
His mother, Queen Margarethe also gave a speech to assembled guests.
Those attending the regal occasion dined on asparagus flan, wild watercress, shrimps, venison, cabbage and new potatoes along with a Roquefort tart and rhubarb and lemon mousse.
‘You stand, as you say, in the middle of life,’ the Queen told her son.
‘You have achieved a lot, and you have experienced a lot, and these days you have felt how all Denmark cheered up on you and look forward to your deeds.
‘You are in favour of everything you have to do, and it sets traces wherever you come.’
Earlier in the day, the royal couple posed for photographs with their four children – seven-year-old twins Princess Josephine and Prince Vincent, along with Prince Christian, 12, and Princess Isabella, 11.
The family stood on the balcony at Amalienborg Palace to wave to well-wishers and watch the changing of the guard.
Following on from the evening gala dinner – which was attended by royals and dignitaries from all over Europe – the next day, the couple attended the live broadcast of a TV show dedicated to the Crown Prince.
They walked the red carpet along with their children – with Princess Josephine stealing the show as she grinned cheekily to cameras.
On Instagram, the Royal couple also shared a portrait taken of the family by photographer Franne Voight
‘It’s a pleasure… to be able to share a new picture of the whole family on the occasion of his Royal Highness’s 50th birthday,’ the palace wrote.
The portrait shows the family beaming at the camera dressed in various shades of blue.
