But now it seems she has not one but two very powerful women in her corner, after one American politician spoke out defending the Duchess.

In an interview with The Sunday Times, fierce feminist and advocate for women’s rights Hillary Clinton revealed, “I’m a huge Meghan Markle fan.”

“The way she’s been treated is inexplicable,” Hillary continued.

“If the explanation is that she’s biracial, then shame on everybody… it’s certainly part [of her ill treatment].”

The former First Lady’s daughter Chelsea also had her say, and she agreed with her mum’s every word.

“I don’t know her, but as someone who respects her, I’m grateful that she persists, and is unbowed, and is doing work she feels called to do. And also isn’t willing to be bullied,” said Chelsea after adding that Meghan’s decision to have a career and to use her voice in an effort to affect change in the world also put her in the firing line.

It’s not the first time the former presidential candidate has thrown her support behind Meghan, taking to social media to talk about how inspired she was by the Suits actress’ work to empower women to rejoin the workforce.

And Hillary’s not the only celebrity to lend throw their star power behind the Duchess in recent days, with reality queen Kim Kardashian leaping to her defence

“I think that everyone makes their own choices and decisions,” the 38-year-old said of both Meghan and Harry during a recent interview at the Armenia Technology Convention.

“No one’s going to be perfect. I’m not, they’re not. I don’t know who is.

“I still love and value the fact they bring such attention to such important movements that need to happen and things that they’re really passionate about cause they’re still changing the world.”

The couple have been facing ever-increasing criticism of late, for everything from their excessive use of private jets to their decision to sue two British papers over stories they published about the Duchess.

Ahead of their Africa tour, Meghan and Harry were confronted with tough questions about their first overseas family trip – which some estimated would cost a whopping $2 million.

Though they used their own money to pay for Archie’s nanny and Meghan’s hairdresser while on tour, as well as their new private secretary, many still wondered why they needed five more staffers than Prince William and Kate Middleton had when they travelled to Australia in 2014 as a family of three with then-baby son George.
