Royal fans were surprised to hear that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle had decided to give their first-born son a surname.

But on Thursday, it was revealed they chose to give Archie a surname as a sweet nod to his great-grandfather Prince Philip.
According to Express, Philip was extremely disappointed when the Queen announced in 1952 that the family’s surname would be changed to Windsor.
He previously renounced his Greek and Danish royal titles when he became a British subject and changed his name to his maternal grandparents’ surname, Mountbatten.
So, when the Queen revealed her plans, it disappointed him, with him reportedly saying at the time he was the only man in England to not give his children his name.
“I’m just a bloody amoeba,” the Duke reportedly said.
While it was later revealed all descendants who don’t have the title of Prince or Princess would be given the surname Mountbatten-Windsor, Meghan and Harry still opted to give Archie a surname.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s baby name revelation comes after it was revealed Harry’s former flame, Chelsy Davy, struggled with life in the royal spotlight just like Meghan.
According to Express, the 34-year-old called off her royal romance with Harry after it became difficult for them to date with the constant media scrutiny.
Chelsy, who is Harry’s most well-known former girlfriend, started dating him back in 2003, and many believed they would stay together forever – until they called it quits in 2010.
But as the 34-year-old previously told the Daily Mail, she was forced to call off their relationship because it got to the point where she felt as though she “couldn’t cope”.
