The pair's relationship has been 'under pressure'

Busy touring the Caribbean last week Prince Charles and his wife Camilla took time off from their jam-packed 13-day schedule to unwind and celebrate a royal milestone that neither thought would ever happen.

The couple, whose whirlwind trip saw them take part in more than 50 engagements, almost went unnoticed as they strolled barefoot along the beach together before taking a dip in the ocean.

While the Prince of Wales, 70, swapped his usual tailored suits for floral swim shorts, the Duchess of Cornwall, 71, rocked a blue one-piece and wore dark sunglasses. Laughing together, the pair looked happier than ever and seemed joyful in each other’s company.

The break is just what the couple needed given the pressure their marriage has been under after Lady Davina Windsor announced her divorce (see page 6). Charles was shocked by the news of Davina’s divorce, especially because she had been married for 14 years, which is a similar length of time to his and Camilla’s marriage, and that fact deeply saddened him.

Their unofficial outing comes as Camilla prepares to take on a new royal title as Princess of Wales – almost 15 years after she married her prince.

At the time of their wedding in 2005, Clarence House vowed that Camilla would be given the title Princess Consort only when her husband succeeds to the throne. It was thought to be a sign of respect to Charles’ first wife, Diana, Princess of Wales, on whom he cheated (with Camilla) and who tragically died in a car crash in 1997.

However, it’s understood that with the Queen now preparing her eldest son for his role as King, Camilla, who was afforded the title of Duchess of Cornwall after the couple’s civil ceremony, will soon become Princess of Wales and eventually Queen.

Charles and Camilla met at a polo match in 1970, but their romance ended when Charles went away on naval duties overseas. Camilla went on to marry and have two children with Andrew Parker Bowles, while Charles married Diana and had William and Harry.

After rumours of infidelity, Charles and Camilla gradually rekindled their relationship after both their marriages had come to an end. Clearly in support of the title change, Prince Charles previously opened up about his wife saying she’s “defined her own public role” since becoming a member of the royal family, despite public backlash.

“She’s been brilliant in the way she’s tackled these things,” Charles told CNN back in 2015.

Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams told the Express last year he is “pretty certain” Charles will grant his second wife the prestigious title despite her “unpopularity” He went on to say Camilla’s standing had “increased a good deal” after the Queen elevated her to the Privy Council in June 2016, “which was a clear sign of approval”.

In another sign the couple have the royal blessing for the title change, the Queen paid tribute to Camilla in a heartfelt speech on her son’s 70th birthday.

“Over his 70 years, Philip and I have seen Charles become a champion of conservation and the arts, a great charitable leader.

“Sustained by his wife Camilla, he is his own man, passionate and creative.
