It is understood Andrew and Fergie took separate flights to Scotland with Fergie staying at Craigowan, a shooting lodge on the estate, while Andrew will stay in Balmoral Castle with the rest of the royal family.
One royal aide revealed: “They are both facing some grim times. Balmoral is a very quiet, very remote place where people can work things out in total calm.
It has since been reported that the Duchess of York was forced to 'flee' Balmoral on Sunday, after an unexpected royal visitor spoiled her luxury holiday with Andrew.
Her old nemesis Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, turned up early for the summer break, apparently leaving Fergie feeling about as welcome as a wasp at a picnic.
