Speaking to celebrity interviewer Pete Timbs on WHO’s new podcast, WHO ARE YOU, Roxy was asked point blank to nominate ‘the last time you lied’.
Without missing a beat, Roxy replied, ‘I’m in PR, I have to lie every day’.
On a less cheeky note, Roxy went into detail about her most famous and controversial decision to not tell the truth: her choice to lie to her young daughter Pixie – then aged five - about the imprisonment of husband Oliver Curtis.
‘In the beginning, I told Pixie that he was in China, and that was believable because he used to travel there a lot,’ she recalls during the podcast discussion.
‘It was the first thing that came to my mind when she asked me what was wrong, and where he is – keeping in mind that one day he went to work and never came home again.’
When Roxy finally filled her daughter in on the details of her father’s imprisonment, it was after some school kids had cruelly taunted the child about it, embellishing the story into an even more dramatic form.
‘It wasn’t until he actually came home that I told her the truth, because she was fronted by some kids at her school who said, “Your dad is a baddie, he was in jail but he broke out of jail”.
‘So, it was at that point that I needed to tell her, but before then I wasn’t ready.’
Roxy says she doesn’t regret shielding her daughter from the truth, despite the heat she took at the time – and sometimes continues to take – for the lie.
‘I think as a mother you can only judge [what’s best for your child] as an individual, I don’t think there is a blanket rule. The only thing you can do is what’s best for your child, because there is no set way of parenting.
‘I did what was right for my children, and at the time I was criticised immensely for it. I’m happy with the way I did it, there’s been no tears, she understands it.
‘I didn’t want to do it before because I knew she wouldn’t cope.’
Roxy reveals plenty more in her chat with Pete, including what she did while her husband was in prison that she now deeply regrets.
She also talks extremely frankly about her fraught relationship with her father, and her battle with breast cancer. And she tells the startling story of how she recently ended up spending $27,000 on her appearance.
