"My grandparents would put out big sheets of cardboard on the floor for me to doodle on and right up until late in high school I thought it would be something I would pursue as a career, until performing jumped the queue," he told 9Honey Celebrity.
"After going on to forge a career in that world, it's nice to be able to share my other artistic skills now too."
Rove also told the publication that his daughter Ruby – who he shares with wife Tasma Walton – has been an avid editor of his children’s books.
"She's been very hands-on with suggestions and feedback for both books," he says.
"In fact, Disgusting and Rocky's pets have come purely from my daughter's suggestions. She is currently enthralled with reading Rocky Lobstar every night and I love that she is engaged with the story and characters, even though it's actually meant for kids slightly older than she is."
What’s more, the former radio host counts Where The Wild Things Are and Animalia as some of his favourites.
"I was also really into the more comic book style of the Asterix series by Goscinny and Uderzo even though most of the joke names went over my head at the time," he says.
