And now the singer has revealed his plans to make a more permanent move Down Under.
I’m coming back to Sydney with Storm and Cooper [for the tour],” he tells New Idea. “I can’t wait to get back to Sydney... Storm and I just love it. It’s such a special place and so important to us–at some stage in my life I think I’ll settle down in Sydney for an amount of time.”
Of course, this particular trip is also bittersweet for the singer as it brings the band closer and closer to their final gig together. Despite several break-ups over the years, Boyzone revealed their current world tour, and their seventh studio album, Thank You & Goodnight, would be their last.
With the end in sight, Ronan is reflecting on the band’s youthful heyday.
“I was 16 when I joined the band,” he recalls. “Looking back at the ’90s, the entire time was bananas. I remember one time in particular coming off stage in Dublin after playing to 40,000 or so people, and then jumping on to a private jet to go and sing onstage with Pavarotti! ... It was just a golden, magical time for all of us.”
However, it appears that the days of partying while on the road are well and truly behind the group.
“I’m singing 24 songs every night,” says Ronan. “I just can’t risk losing my voice, so there’s no partying for me at all–I go to bed straight after every show, unfortunately.
“It’s a huge commitment and it’s a lot of responsibility on my shoulders, but it’s the last time we’re doing it so I want to do it right.
“Plus, these days we have our families touring with us on and off so there’s often our kids and partners backstage.”
Boyzone are touring Australia through March and April. Tickets available via ticketek.com
