After years of denial, a Romanian royal related to Queen Elizabeth II has confirmed he is the father of a three-year-old daughter.
Nicholas Medforth-Mills - formerly Prince Nicolae of Romania - posted a statement on Facebook revealing he had fathered a child with Romanian woman Nicoleta Cirjan during a brief three month affair in 2015.
While Nicholas, who is the only son of Princess Elena of Romania and her first husband Robin Medforth-Mills, had repeatedly denied any relationship to the little girl, a paternity test confirmed him to be the dad of Anna Iris who turned three in February, Daily Mail reports.
“As a result of my insistence on the test of establishing the paternity of my alleged child, Ms. Nicoleta Cîrjan accepted the realization. The result was positive, thinking I was her child’s father,” he wrote in the post, originally published in Romanian.
“Given the context in which this child came to the world, the fact that I did not have a relationship with [the] mother, I assumed legal responsibility for it.
"For reasons related to protecting the superior interest of the child, I believe that any issue about the child's life is strictly private.

"With the wish to protect the child and avoid risks that may be provoked by media or bullying, I have decided to cease any comment on this subject."
Nicholas has been married to aviation PR consultant Alina Maria Binder since September 2018.
Nicholas' grandfather King Michael I, last monarch of Romania who was a distant cousin of Her Majesty the Queen, removed him from the line of succession to the now-defunct throne in 2015 with sensational reports claiming the decision was related to his denials of Anna's parentage.
Nicholas was born in Switzerland and raised in County Durham in the UK.
Prince Charles is a well known fan of Romania, it's people and culture, previously declaring on a visit to the nation: "It is rare, maybe unique in Europe, to find productive landscape so well preserved and functional, at such a large scale."
The Prince of Wales owns several properties in the eastern European country, according to Romania Insider.
