Andy and Deb are always ready for a laugh on The Block, but the vibrant couple have been through some tough times in the past.
WATCH: Meet The Block’s Andy and Deb
Two years ago, Deb lost her wonderful brother-in-law, Brendan, to sarcoma.
“He was diagnosed with cancer in 2014 and passed away from it three years later,” Deb tells New Idea.
“Not long after his diagnosis, he had to have the bone removed from his leg and replaced with titanium. That operation was not as successful as they had hoped so not long after that they amputated his leg.
“But, Bren never complained when he had every reason to and always found the good in any situation even when things were extremely tough.”
That’s why Deb wants to honour her brother with a personalised artwork in her house on The Block.
“To have one thing that reminds me of him in our Block house is very special,” says Deb.
As for what Brendan would think of her and Andy going on the hit show, Deb knows he would be thrilled.
“I think he would be proud,” she says. “But, I think he would also have a good laugh at the thought of us renovating on TV!”
