This year’s crop of Married At First Sight contestants already make Davina and Dean’s ‘affair’ last year look like an episode of Play School.
There’s talk of orgies, mysterious funerals and 29-year-olds losing their virginity on national television.
But something happened tonight that was a) a fantastic step for calling out sexism in mainstream media but also b) the worst thing that’s ever happened in six seasons of MAFS.
Bronson dropped the c-bomb.
Now, I don’t pretend to have the most squeaky clean vocabulary myself, but Bronson calling Ines a “see you next Tuesday” is downright disgusting.
If you missed the moment (after all it was beeped out), here’s how it went down.
Bronson and Ines were sitting on the couch opposite the experts during the commitment ceremony and up until this point me, and every other person with half a heart in Australia, was team Bronson.
Until he said this: “When we did the questionnaire thing, Ines was amazing that night,” he began – harmless so far.
“Like really amazing, I loved her to pieces that night. The next morning, the hulk come out. Straight back to bleep bleep.
“I’m not calling her a bleep, I’m just saying she acts like a bleep.”
Sorry, what?
Don’t get me wrong, Ines is putrid, but referring to a woman (or anyone for that matter, but particularly a woman) as a c*** is absolutely not on, it crosses a line that absolutely should not be crossed.
In my opinion, Bronson should have been removed from the show immediately.
That kind of language, said with that malicious intent, in my eyes, is assault and should not be tolerated by Nine or Married At First Sight production company Shine.
So I was absolutely outraged watching this all unfold, about ready to explode – IT’S 2019 BRONSON – when an unexpected hero and all around bad ass babe came to the rescue.
Mel Schilling.
Clearly absolutely disgusted, but in a cool, calm manner, the psychologist smacked Bronson down in the best way possible.
“Bronson, when you use language like that in relation to a woman, how do you expect her to respond to you,” she asked icily.
He replied: “Um, someone who is nice one minute and bad the other, that just throws my emotions out of wack.”
Then, as the baller she is, she stared him down and calmly said: “Let me give you a tip from me to you, don’t use language like, don’t speak about a woman like that, if you want any chance of a relationship with a woman.”
Amen sister, Amen.
