Shocking video footage showing an age care resident being abused by a member of staff has surfaced.
Noleen Hausler installed a hidden camera in her father Clarence’s room at Mitcham Residential Care in Kingswood, Adelaide after concerning bruises appeared on his body.
The footage taken in 2015 shows 29-year-old carer Corey Lyle Lucas force feeding the 89-year-old man, as well as holding a napkin over his face.
‘He put it over his nose appearing to try and suffocate Dad,’ Noleen told ABC 7.30.
Once Noleen had proof her father was being mistreated, she said she thought about ringing the facility ‘because I was scared for my father’s safety but I knew that this was very serious so I went down to the Sturt police station.’
Although Lucas was convicted of two counts of aggravated assault, he only served three weeks of his 10-month sentence behind bars.
A spokesperson from Mitcham Residential Care said: ‘As soon as we became aware of the incident, the individual was immediately suspended and we have assisted with the police investigation which has since led to a conviction.’
