A mental health episode is believed to have sparked the mysterious circumstances surrounding the Tromp family holiday.
Last week it was reported that the family of five hopped in a car and drove from their home in Melbourne to New South Wales for a technology free vacation. However; by the end of the week, two members were in hospital and father Mark Tromp was still missing. Thankfully, Mark was found safe and well over the weekend.
Despite everyone being accounted for, there are a lot of questions still being asked about the events that unfolded last week.
The Age reports one of the parents experienced a mental health episode, which spread through the rest of the family until they were all convinced someone was after them. Son Mitchell Tromp, 25, told the news site there was no history of mental illness.
While the search was underway, The Goulburn Post revealed NSW police circulated a document internally warning the family could be suffering from group delusional schizophrenia. However, Mitchell Tromp said this was incorrect.
‘I can see everyone’s questions,’ Mitchell told media. ‘I can see why they want to know, but it’s a family matter. I just want the family to be able to come back together and everything to work itself out.’
