The Bachelor star Keira Maguire says she didn’t know who her mum was until she five.
Keira, who was born into a cult, opened up to The Project host Carrie Bickmore about her past.
‘I didn’t know who my mum was until I was five. It sounds strange, but it just is what it is,’ Keira told Bickmore in an interview that aired on Wednesday night.
‘I didn’t even have birthdays. I think I had my first birthday when I was seven. For other people, it might be really sad. But it’s not, because it’s my story,’ she added.
News emerged earlier this week that Keira grew up in polygamist cult in Victoria, founded by her father Alistah Laishkochav who had nine wives and 63 children.
When Keira was five, her mother Michelle left the cult with her children.
Breaking down on The Project, Keira said, ‘I just couldn’t believe that they wrote a story without coming to me and asking if it was OK.’
