On his wedding night, flamboyant artist Charles Billich crept away and slept with the official photographer instead of his brand-new bride.
Of course I was upset at the time,’ admits his glamorous wife, business manager and muse Christa, who is now celebrating 30 years of mostly happy ‘open marriage’ with the philandering painter and sculptor.
But Christa, a regular guest on The Real Housewives Of Melbourne, can’t say she wasn’t warned. Even the mayor who was asked to make them man and wife – back in Charles’ old home town in Croatia – at first refused.
‘I thought she was joking, but she wasn’t,’ the slim, German-born blonde recalls with a chuckle. ‘She told Charles: “You have the worst reputation and each time you come here you have a different fiancee. This is going to be your fifth wife! It can’t be right. It’s going to be a disaster!”’
