Strangers shower little boy with gifts after nobody turned up to his birthday party

A happy ending for the heartbreaking story

We reported earlier this month when an upset mum urged parents to RSVP to kids’ birthday parties after no one turned up to celebrate her son’s ninth birthday.

Mum-of-six, Kristen Layne’s post went viral after she posted pictures of her little boy, Mahlon sitting alone at his party table – breaking hearts around the world.

However, thankfully the story has a happy ending – strangers contacted Kristen to shower Mahon with gifts and letters from all corners of the globe… and he was even invited to spend the day at a fire station in his home town of Oregon.

I’m crying big ugly tears right now. I’m going through letters and received a very sweet heartfelt letter from a mom of two boys with Autism and Sensory Processing Disorder,’ Kristen penned on her blog, Life On Peanut Layne.

‘It’s never been about the gifts and fame as my haters claim (still laughing over that as anyone who really knows me knows I’m very shy and would much rather hide under a blanket eating chocolate than have to talk to people).

‘This is what it’s all about. People reaching out and offering a kind word to make someone else feel better.’

She also shared snaps of Mahlon looking overjoyed as he was given a private tour of the fire station by firefighters.

‘An extra special thank you to the Bend Firefighters for giving Mahlon one of the best days ever! Last Sunday we were invited for a private tour of the station and the kids were mesmerized by all the bright shiny red objects’.
