Slender Man murder: Girls can be tried as adults

Appeals court rules

A Wisconsin state appeals court ruled the two girls accused attempted murder of their classmate can be tried as adults, even though they were 12-years-old at the time.

Morgan Guyser and Anissa Weir, now 14, claimed they tried to kill their friend in 2014, as a sacrifice to the fictional character Slender Man.

Morgan and Anissa lured their friend Payton Leutner to a park in Waukesha, where they stabbed her 19 times.

Payton managed to crawl to the road, where a passing cyclist discovered her.

Morgan and Anissa are charged with attempted first-degree intentional homicide. If convicted as adults they could face up to 45 years in prison. However, if they are convicted as juveniles, they could face three years in prison.

The Guardian reports: ‘If the girls were found guilty in the juvenile system they would be released at age 18 with no supervision or mental health treatment.’

Both girls can appeal the rulings to the Wisconsin supreme court.
