Police uncovered an elaborate gas network that claimed the lives of the Manrique family in Sydney’s Northern Beaches in what is being described as a suspected murder suicide.
Fernando Manrique, 44, his wife Maria Claudia Lutz, 43, and the couple’s two children Martin, 10, and Eliza, 11, and their dog, were found dead in their home on Monday.
The Sydney Morning Herald reports there was a system running through the ceiling, which police said was a “deliberate move” to kill the family.
It is unknown if Manrique acted alone or had a pact with his wife.
The couple’s two children were both diagnosed with autism.
Neighbour Okik Thomassian, 72, said she saw Manrique two days before his death.
‘He was right up on the roof replacing tiles and using power tools of sorts,’ Thomassian told the Daily Telegraph.
‘He was cutting and banging and making all sorts of noise and pulling up tiles but I don’t really know what he was doing.’
