Having a baby is supposed to be one of the best times of your life but for Elle Halliwell pregnancy has been bittersweet.
The 30-year-old journalist was diagnosed with severe leukaemia two days before discovering she was pregnant with her first child.
Elle, who is 32 weeks, decided to delay treatment for the cancer and proceed with her pregnancy.
‘The poor life inside me living in this sick body. I thought it had no hope,’ she told 60 Minutes.
With her husband Nick beside her, Elle has spoken of how the early detection of her cancer gave her the option to delay treatment.
‘I kind of thought I’ve lived a really great life and I’m bringing life into the world now and if it all goes well, and if it doesn’t I’ve done my best and it’s not meant to be.’
Elle will undergone treatment for Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia (CML) after her son is born.
