Kim McConnell was about to give birth to her baby son when she discovered she had bowel cancer.
The 31-year-old mum from Perth had been forced to put off having a colonoscopy earlier in her pregnancy because it could induce labour but shortly before her son’s birth she had the test.
Kim was told she had an 11cm tumour and after the birth of her son Jai she had a CT scan only to find the cancer had spread.
‘My surgeon had hoped it was localised and only stage two, but after the scan they said it was stage four and had spread to my liver,’ says Kim.
‘I had surgery the following day where they removed a large part of my bowel and one of the two spots on my liver.’
Kim, who has two children with her husband Mike, is determined to beat the cancer and is following a raw food diet.
