An upset mum has urged parents to RSVP to kids’ birthday parties after no one turned up to celebrate her son’s ninth birthday.

Kristen Layne, was heartbroken when her son Mahlon spent his birthday just with family after not a single child from school or taekwando class turned up.

‘This ninth birthday was supposed to be his year. His special day. His first real party with friends,’ she wrote.

She’d chosen a “Diary of a Wimpy Kid’ theme because it’s his favourite book.

She said Mahlon was up before the sun and was looking forward to the party because he’d previously been homeschooled.

His mum said she’d asked parents to RSVP because since the family was new in town she didn’t have any phone numbers for the parents. But Mahlon had assured her five friends said they were coming.

When nobody arrived, he sobbed to his parents: ‘No one came Dad. I guess I’m not very popular at school.’

While Kristen is not angry at the children, she urges parents to RSVP.
